2010 Blog

01/26/2010 Blog - Getting Close!

Getting close!!  The team has worked hard and long hours to finish the car before leaving for Daytona Speedway.   As we load into the race track on Wednesday, there is a lot of pit equipment to set-up, get the racecar through technical inspection and practice driver changes, etc.   There is still a lot to do before we even get on the track.  We are all looking forward to our first practice on Thursday morning to start our work making the car a fast, comfortable and reliable for the 24 hour race starting Saturday afternoon.  Follow our progress by clicking “What is Davy up to” on the left.

01/23/2010 Blog - Skiing before the Rolex

Due to a series of storms off the Pacific Coast, the West Coast has been getting slammed with a great deal of snow. This means that we have had our fair share of shoveling  in between getting ready for Daytona. My family and I managed to get in a day of skiing during the chaos while others said “don’t get hurt”. Now it’s traveling to Daytona Beach and getting set-up for the race weekend. All of the support and interest from everyone gives me great encouragement and I look forward to the race more than ever. The team is getting their final preparations done on the racecar at the race shop in Daytona Beach, Florida. Everything is coming together nicely and we have a big announcement coming soon.

01/15/2010 Blog - Preparing for the Rolex 24

With the race weekend approaching fast; it’s getting down to “crunch time” for everyone.   The Godstone Ranch Motorsports team is busy prepping the car with all the race components (race engine, race gearbox, brakes, suspension, etc).  The Texas Heart Institute paint scheme and sponsors’ logos are being added to the body for a race ready look. The drivers are busy training and discussing with each other step-by-step the details of the pit stops, driver changes, the best way to take care of the racecar, etc. Then there is the team manager, wives and girlfriends that are organizing the logistics’ so everything goes smoothly during the race weekend.  The 24 hours of Daytona is the most grueling race on the Grand-am schedule and being prepared is a key to success.  We are all “as a team” giving it 100%. We’re in it to win it……

01/10/2010 Blog - The Roar Before the 24

The Daytona Test days were challenged with the freezing cold weather condition.  You may think how cold can it get in Daytona Beach Florida? Cold enough to rain sleet and cool the race track temperature to 34 degrees.   It makes it difficult to get the tires hot enough to work on the car set-up, the set-up of our new Texas Heart Institute GT Corvette is a key to having a good car to race.  With Paul Edwards doing most of the set-up, John McCutchen, Scott Russell and myself familiarize ourselves to the car and track. Our racecar is fast and we are all looking forward to being a front runner for the 48th running of the Daytona 24 hour race on January 30th. The past few days played a key role in our team all working together for the first time,  we have new members and responsibility for a twenty-four hour race.  Please follow my blog as I take you on an inside journey of the God Stone Ranch Motorsports team and my experience getting back into the driver’s seat after a long hiatus,” too long”…..
