How nice it is to be back in a competitive environment and with 2 days of testing at Monticello Motor Club before going to the last Rolex Grand-am race of the season. Dyson Racing has prepared a new Lola/Ford Daytona Prototype car for Godstone Ranch http://godstoneranchmotorsports.com/default.html. To be back in a race car; I can’t express enough of how it all comes back… Getting into a rhythm, becoming one with the car and working with the team brings me right back to the Bud Light/TWR days. I truly am looking forward to our upcoming race, getting to work with Dyson racing and seeing how the weekend unfolds with our competition. It will be a big learning curve for all as we are a new team in the Grand-am series but our goal is to be competitive and have a solid race finish. My co-driver John McCutchen had a good test for being his first time in a prototype car. His impression was the Lola is a very forgiving car to drive and he quickly adapted to the car. We are pleased to be a part of the Godstone Ranch/ Texas Heart Institute team once again. The” Heart Car” is working its magic to help THI raise money to fight Cardiovascular disease. You can help as well by pledging a $10 donation by texting from you mobile phone. Try it, the number is 505 55 then put “Car” in the message body. By making a pledge, you will help contribute to our future racing efforts (like the 24 Hours of Daytona). Stay tuned to this site and davyracing on Twitter.
It has been awhile since my last writing, just too much fun to take time to up-date this blog…. We have had a great fun summer; I have been busy between work, family and playing. The Jaguar XJ is now out and the owners are delighted with their new car. The Jaguar R Performance Academy is going strong with great reviews (click on this link http://hooniverse.com/2010/08/11/jaguar-r-performance-driving-academy/ ). I had the opportunity to work with the 2011 Audi A8 which will be in dealer late September. Like the XJ, the A8 is Audi’s flagship vehicle; a “fun car” with some great features and a great competitor with the Jaguar, Lexus, BMW and Mercedes. I did have a pre-production A8 to drive for a few weeks, these vehicles are really in a class of their own when it comes to elegance and performance. On the racing front: you may have heard that I will be competing in the last Rolex Grand-am race of the season at Miller Motorsport Park on September 11th. We will be racing a Lola/Ford Daytona Prototype entered by Dyson Racing (www.dysonracing.com ). I will be co-driving with John McCutchen as we teamed together for Daytona and Homestead early this year. This is a great challenge and opportunity for both of us so please follow this blog as I will be up-dating as we test and prepare for this great venture the next few weeks.
The all new Jaguar XJ is out and at your Jaguar dealers now. I highly recommend taking one for a drive, you will be very impressed and happy you took the time. I have been visiting various jaguar dealerships to talk with their guest about the XJ, racing and vintage Jaguars in general. The following photo’s are from Jaguar of Monterey welcome XJ reception. There is a lot of buzz regarding the US Open at Pebble Beach which starts this week. Sam Linder had on display at fabulous 1954 XK120 filled with Tiffany boxes and a 1961 XK150 but the star of the show was the all new XJ’s.

The Ultimate Lamborghini Experience III took place at Fontana Speedway this past Thursday. What a site it was to see ”50 plus” Lambo’s assembled in one place (see photo). I was working with the media that was there to drive the all new LP570-4 Superleggera. One thing about the media is that they get to drive all makes and models before they arrive into dealerships and customers take delivery. I found with a few coaching tips to the media, they were able to get the ultimate experience of the LP570-4. It is a fun and easy car to drive but don’t under estimate the lighter weight (154 lb), 398 lb-ft torque and the 570 hp with AWD. It is a fast car… Fortunately I get to drive all makes and models as well. I really did enjoy driving the new LP570-4 Superleggera and I feel it would only take a few minor improvements to make it the ultimate track car…

Big week, Big race weekend. This past week was filled with Jaguar, Jaguar and more Jaguars’. We started out at the Coto de Caza Country Club in Irvine, CA with the 2011 XJ on display. What fun we had with the members enjoying their drive in the XJ before and after their golf game. Saturday morning was way cool visiting Cars & Coffee http://irvine.carsandcoffee.info/ before flying to New York for the Jaguar R Academy at Monticello Motor Club. See the Road and Track article February 2010 http://www.roadandtrack.com/special_feature/jaguar-r-performance-academy . Coaching owners of the R model Jaguar is very unique, everyone that we meet is special and we take the time to explain and show them all the dynamics of the vehicle they purchased. Trust me, it is a wow factor for them and our program more than exceeds their expectations. As a special surprise Jaguar had the XJR-13 and the 1988 Le Mans winning XJR-9 on display. What an awesome site of history; they will be on display at Pebble Beach this August before going back to the UK. (See photos) The racing this weekend is going to be action packed, starting Sunday with the Indy 500, the Coca Cola 600 and the Grand-am Rolex races at Lime Rock Park on Monday… Have a great Memorial Day weekend, remember our fallen heroes of war and how blessed we all are today.

Week Two of the BMW 5 series Launch tour, Atlanta Georgia gave some potential buyer’s true excitement about the 2011 model’s due in dealerships this June. First drive of 535i is proving to be a true winner for BMW. The new 3 liter in-line six single turbo engines are delivering 300hp and 300 ft pounds of torque. Starting with the stylish interior, the comfort driving positing, adaptive dynamic handling suspension and BMW power, it is a joy to drive. Once again the Teen Driving School was a big success. They get to drive BMW 335i’s for all of their training modules, learning skid control to accident avoidances to late breaking exercises. Next stop is Dallas, TX May 14th, 15th and 16th.
We are getting closer to making an announcement on future racing plans; please also have a look at www.godstoneranchmotorsports.com . This past weekend in Miami was the first stop for the 2011 BMW 5 Series launch (expected at dealerships in June). We had some fun with the people that joined our program to drive the 535i and a few comparison vehicles; as well as the Teens that went through the BMW Teen Driving School Sunday afternoon. This is a four city tour so I will post update as we tour each city. Visit www.bmw.com for info. All vehicles drive nice until you driver them back-to-back and compare.
- Atlanta, May 7-9
- Dallas, May 14-16
- Houston, May 21-23
Unfortunately these blogs are getting further apart in time and I don’t mean for this to happen. As they say time flies when you’re having fun… I just recently returned from a motorcycle trip in Baja Mexico and what a great ride it was for a great cause. It was the 12th Annual Ron Gray – Gene Dempsey Memorial Ride for the “City of Hope Cancer Research Fund”. Day one was 145 mile ride from Ensenada to Mikes Sky Ranch where we stayed the night. What a cool place that is with the who’s, who of the Baja 1000 world. Day two was another 140 miles back to Ensenada where we finished up with an awards dinner hosted by Jim O’Neal of O’Neal Motorcycle gear. This is a trip that I will put on the schedule again for next year as a must. The people are what made it great and to ride for a special cause makes it worth every penny (or should I say Peso). Okay, so I have been slacking a bit when it comes to updating this blog. The 2011 XJ Jaguar program was a big success, watch for them to start arriving into your local jaguar dealerships soon. Take one for a test drive; you will be more than impressed. I have been getting a lot of calls asking me if I am going to be at the Barber Grand-am / IndyCar races this weekend; the answer is no. We are working on a few more races this year with the Texas Heart Institute as our goal to create awareness and I hope the make an announcement soon. I have been taking advantage of the spring time weather by skiing, playing golf and dirt bike riding and of course MonaVie plays a big part in all of that. I hope you are enjoying this time of year as well. Please keep checking back for updates and look into MonaVie for your Health and Well Being.
Time flies, since Homestead I have been working with Jaguar on their new 2011 XJ. Visiting the Jaguar dealerships in the Northeast to let the sales consultants and their costumers see and drive the all new XJ which will not be in showrooms until May. To have the opportunity to drive this car is a real treat as it is pure performance wrapped in luxury… It is Jaguars flagship model and they have delivered a great car.
I also had the opportunity to visit New Jersey Motorsport Park during their opening weekend for club members. Both tracks were busy as all the car clubs came out to play. I have been to NJMP a few times but it was my first to drive the Lightning Road Course and what a fun track that is. It is one where you get into a nice rhythm and really enjoy the driving lap after lap… Have a look at their website and plan on going for day or weekend this summer. Hopefully I will be there racing, stay tuned for updates..
Paul Edwards and Scott Russell had good race weekend here at Homestead Speedway. Rebounding from Daytona to qualify as the fastest GT car by more than a half second and finishing sixth in the 2.75 hour race. Mona Vie was once again flying its colors on the side minors of the #07 Texas Heart Institute Corvette. The Rolex race was shown live on Speed TV where the Continental Tire Challenge race, where I was driving the #05 Camaro will be shown Saturday March 13th at 1:00PM Eastern time on Speed TV.
